kiddy picture stadiumKidderminster Harriers are repaying the youngsters in their local community, with all local junior teams being given free entry to their 18th December home fixture against Kettering Town.  The special ‘Junior Teams Day’, will mean all junior teams who turn up in their club colours, will gain free entry to Aggborough’s east stand, with coaches, parents and officials gaining entry for just £10.00.

Extra exciting opportunities before the game include a penalty shootout, with one player from each team taking a penalty.  The winning team will then have the amazing opportunity to win £500 for their teams kit next season.  The club have advised that there must be a minimum of one adult to every eight children. Kidderminster are also going that extra mile to boost attendance at Aggborough by allowing people who are unemployed to gain free entry to support and boost attendance ratings, again to the east stand.

Ebbsfleet United

History:
Gravesend & Northfleet Football Club was born out the merger of two clubs, Gravesend United and Northfleet United, who had both been playing football in the area since the 1890’s.  The new club was formed in April 1946, taking up residence at Northfleet’s Stonebridge Road stadium which had the superior facilities.   Ebbsfleet United played their first even game on 31st August 1946, beating Herford United 3-0.  But the Fleet had to wait until the 1957/58 season for success, when they won the Southern League, scoring 135 goals on the way to being crowned as champions.  The 1960’s saw decidedly mixed fortunes, with continued financial problems and even the resignation of the entire board in 1967.  But on the flip side the period coincided with their best ever cup run, eventually losing out to Sunderland in a Fourth round replay.
In the 1974/75 season under the guidance of Tony Sitford, the team won the Southern Division title, whilst two seasons later, further silverware arrived at Stonebridge Road courtesy of winning the Southern League Cup.  Good performances in subsequent seasons resulted in The Fleet qualifying as founder members of the Alliance Premier League (later Conference), finishing a creditable fifth in the inaugural season of 1979/80.

paulolimalewesLewes manager Tim O’Shea, vows not to get carried away by Saturday’s emphatic 3-0 win at Weston-super-Mare.

Due to rivals Thurrock, Boreham Wood and St Albans, the latter who visit the Dripping Pan next Saturday, all dropping points, the Blue Square South side have now taken a step closer to safety following their big win, which also moves them up a postion to third from bottom in the league.

O’Shea informed The Argus: “There is a good mix of young and old in the side. Nobody is on trial here it is just a case of changing a few things.  It has been an encouraging start, with four points from six, but we are still in the relegation zone and there is a huge amount of work still to be done.”

Roberto Martinez, the Wigan Athletic manager, commented this week about the ongoing debate on tackling by saying; “The British game is more open and more accepted to have that type of contact in the challenges. Nowadays you have to be very careful, reckless and excessive force can bring an injury to a player (as can) a strong and healthy one.”
